  • Homeschoolers who only attend Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday will not need a device.
Full device requirements and recommended specs are on the Student Devices tab.
Student devices

Choose a device for your student’s grade and program.

You don’t need to replace a working, reliable device that runs your student’s class apps just to buy a newer or more expensive model. Use a supported operating system that receives security updates, and keep it current.

Full-time students and Friday students bring their device daily, charged each evening. Homeschoolers who attend only Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday don’t need a device.

Elementary, through 3rd grade

A tablet is all you need.

  • An iPad from 2022 or newer is recommended; a current Android tablet like the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ also works.
  • At least 64GB of storage (128GB preferred).
  • Avoid Amazon Fire tablets; they don’t reliably run the apps we use.

4th–6th grade

A laptop is recommended, but a tablet is still fine.

  • Laptop: an ordinary modern Mac or Windows laptop with enough storage for classwork. 16GB of memory is recommended when buying, but a working, compatible laptop with less is fine; dedicated graphics are not required.
  • Tablet: an iPad from 2022 or newer is recommended, or a current Android tablet such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+. At least 64GB of storage (128GB preferred). Avoid Amazon Fire tablets.

Full-time 7th–8th grade

An ordinary, reliable modern Mac or Windows laptop is required. It should run the class apps, including Scratch, and have enough storage for classwork. 16GB of memory is recommended when buying, but a working, compatible laptop with less is fine. Dedicated graphics are not required.

Homeschool 7th–12th grade

For classes that need a device, an ordinary, reliable modern Mac or Windows laptop is required. It should run the class apps, including Scratch, and have enough storage for classwork. 16GB of memory is recommended when buying, but a working, compatible laptop with less is fine. Dedicated graphics are not required, even for homeschool high school students.

Homeschool students below 7th grade follow the guidance for their grade above.

Full-time high school, 9th–12th grade

Only full-time high school students need a powerful laptop with these specifications:

  • Mac: Apple-silicon MacBook, M1 or newer; at least 16GB unified memory; at least 256GB storage (512GB preferred).
  • Windows: a recent Windows 11 laptop; at least 16GB RAM; dedicated NVIDIA RTX 2050/3050-class graphics or better; at least 256GB SSD (512GB preferred).

For full-time high school, avoid: 8GB RAM configurations, Chromebooks, Intel-based MacBooks, and Windows laptops with only basic integrated graphics.

A refurbished laptop can be a great value from a reputable seller with a clear return policy and warranty. If you’d like, send us a listing before you buy and we’ll confirm the configuration is a good fit. Unsure whether a device is powerful enough? Contact the school at learn@rivertech.me for advice.
Dress code

Modest, professional, distraction-free.

River Tech’s daily-wear standard supports learning, safety, focus, modesty, and professionalism while promoting school identity and parity among students. Our emphasis is on character over appearance (1 Peter 3:3–4). Uniforms are optional; daily wear is flexible within these standards.

Helpful test: would you feel confident sending your student to a job interview in this outfit?
River Tech dress code visual guide

Detailed guide

Tops. Collared polos, henleys, blouses, button-downs, knit tops, t-shirts, crewneck/V-neck sweaters, and cardigans. Sleeveless is OK with straps at least 2.5 inches wide and fitted arm openings. Opaque fabrics; necklines stay professional with cleavage covered.

Bottoms. Chinos/khakis, trousers, joggers (P.E. only), and neat denim. Shorts, skirts, skorts, and dresses at fingertip length or longer. Distressing kept refined: any hole no larger than a half-dollar, and never exposing skin above fingertip length.

Coverage & fit. Midriff and seat stay covered during normal activity (walking, sitting, standing, bending, stretching). Garments fit securely at the waist; loose is fine, overly baggy is not. Undergarments stay fully covered.

Footwear. Clean, secure shoes suited to indoor and outdoor movement. Closed-toe shoes are required for labs, shop, and certain field trips. For P.E.: running shoes and athletic socks.

Layers & outerwear. In class: sweaters, cardigans, light jackets, vests, and school-spirit outerwear. Sunglasses, bandanas, scarves, and heavy coats are for arrival, dismissal, and outdoors; store them during class unless needed for health.

Accessories & jewelry. Subtle, safe, and distraction-free. Piercing jewelry in ears only (modest studs or hoops). No spikes, sharp hardware, or unsafe accessories. Belts, watches, and simple bracelets/necklaces are welcome when subtle and safe.

Hair & grooming. Clean, neat, and professional. No carved names, symbols, or numbers. One natural hair color; natural-colored highlights and lowlights are allowed. Facial hair neatly trimmed.

Makeup & nails. Moderate and well-kept, suited to a professional and educational setting.

Graphics, messages & symbols. Allowed when school-appropriate and aligned with River Tech values. Not allowed: violence, drugs/alcohol/tobacco, profanity, sexual content, or demeaning themes.

P.E. & active wear. Required: running shoes; athletic shorts, sweats, or joggers; an athletic top. Length and coverage standards still apply. Tie back long hair for safety.

Enforcement

An isolated dress correction is a minor violation; handled quietly by the teacher with an on-the-spot fix where possible. Repeated disregard becomes a pattern concern and moves to an administrative response.

Handbook & policies

School expectations apply to full-time and homeschool students alike.

Read the school handbook

Nondiscrimination policy

Notice of Nondiscriminatory Policy as to Students: River Tech School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

River Tech School is a ministry of Faithful Five Inc., an Idaho nonprofit corporation, operating under license from River Tech LLC.

Does River Tech offer transportation or bus service?

River Tech does not operate a daily bus route for drop-off or pick-up. Families drop off and pick up students directly at our campus at 927 E Polston Ave in Post Falls. That said, we do operate a school bus and a school van for weekly park trips and for field trips, so your student still gets to ride with their class when we head out for the day. Because most of our families are within a short drive of campus, many parents also organize informal carpools with other River Tech families in their neighborhood.

What is River Tech School?

River Tech School is a private Christian school of Performing Arts and Technology in Post Falls, Idaho, serving grades 1 through 12. We keep classes small, around 15 students each, and we integrate performing arts and technology with core academics inside a Christian worldview. River Tech is operated by Faithful Five Inc., an Idaho nonprofit corporation, and we enroll both full-time students and homeschool families who want one to four days per week of enrichment.

Is River Tech a Christian school?

Yes. River Tech is a Christian school, and our faith is woven through the entire day rather than isolated to a single Bible class. Each day begins with prayer, worship, and gratitude. We do not promote one denomination over another. Instead, we follow C.S. Lewis’s “mere Christianity” principle of sticking to the fundamentals of the faith and leaving the finer details of doctrine to families and their churches. Our teachers are Christians, and our parent organization, Faithful Five Inc., is an Idaho nonprofit corporation founded on Christian principles.

Is River Tech a full-time school or a homeschool enrichment program?

River Tech is a full-time school that also offers flexible homeschool programs. Homeschool students may enroll in 1–4 days per week and participate in select classes alongside our full-time students, depending on availability.

Can homeschool families use River Tech part-time?

Yes. River Tech offers an à la carte program for homeschool families who want one to four days per week of enrichment. You can choose Monday Performing Arts, Tuesday Science and Social Studies, Thursday Life Skills, Friday Technology, or any combination of them. This lets homeschool parents keep the home-based core of their week while giving their child specialized instruction, community, and hands-on facilities they cannot easily replicate at home. Homeschool families are welcome to join most of our field trip and workshop days, which happen about every three weeks. Each trip has its own sign-up, and some carry a cost depending on the activity. Many of our homeschoolers tell us this is one of their favorite parts of the program.

What grades do you serve, and what are class sizes like?

River Tech serves students in 1st through 12th grade. Class sizes vary by subject:

  • Music and foreign language classes typically have around 7 students.
  • Core subjects such as Math, English, and Science average 10–15 students.
  • Group-based classes like coding or choir may include up to 20 students, in which case two teachers are present.

Overall, River Tech maintains an effective 1:15 teacher–student ratio, allowing for personalized learning and strong teacher–student relationships.

What does a typical week look like at River Tech?

A typical week at River Tech blends core academics with performing arts, technology, and life skills each day. Mondays focus on performing arts, including music, theater, and dance. Tuesdays lean into science and social studies. Wednesdays are a full academic day. Thursdays are built around life skills, biblical worldview, and community. Fridays are our technology day, covering coding, robotics, filmmaking, and digital design. Every day begins with prayer, worship, and gratitude, and every day includes math, reading, and writing appropriate to the student’s level.

How does competency-based learning work at River Tech?

Competency-based learning means students progress when they have mastered the material, not when the calendar says so. At River Tech, a third-grade student who is ready for fifth-grade math is placed in fifth-grade math, and a student who needs more time in reading gets it without being labeled or held back. Teachers track progress against clear competencies, and students move up a level in each subject as they demonstrate they are ready. The result is that no student is bored because the class is too slow, and no student is lost because the class is too fast.

What is River Tech’s culture like?

Each day here begins with prayer, worship, and gratitude, not as an add-on, but as the foundation everything else rests on. We teach children to love God and their families, honor their community and country, take personal responsibility, earn what they achieve, and build something of their own. We do not teach gender ideology, critical race theory, victim mentality, or cancel culture.

Read more about our culture →

What technology programs do you offer?

River Tech offers hands-on learning in:

  • AI and machine learning
  • Coding and programming
  • Filmmaking and video editing
  • 3D modeling and digital design
  • Robotics and circuits
  • Digital arts
What performing arts opportunities are available?

Our performing arts program includes:

  • Drums, bass, guitar, piano, and band
  • Acting, musical theater, and choir
  • Dance classes offered multiple times a week
  • Drawing, filmmaking, and digital arts

Students perform in theater productions, concerts, and performances throughout the year.

How does River Tech handle physical fitness and sports?

Physical activity is built into every week at River Tech. Students spend about twenty minutes each day on drill and calisthenics, which teaches focus, posture, and the discipline of moving as a group while building real physical readiness. Once a week we head to the park for additional physical education, and every three weeks or so we take a field trip that is often physically active, such as wall climbing, trampoline jumping, or roller skating. At River Tech we teach sportsmanship, mobility, and mental toughness through athletics and fitness training because, in the words of Paul, “your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor 6:19-20).

How is River Tech different from a traditional private school?

River Tech differs from a traditional private school in many ways. Here are three examples. First, we are an openly Christian school. Each day begins with prayer, worship, and gratitude, and faith is woven through everything we teach. Second, we specialize in performing arts and technology, which means students are taught musical theater, dance, and instruments alongside coding, robotics, and filmmaking. Third, we have an unusually strong school culture. We hold regular assemblies, take weekly park trips, run field trips every three weeks, and throw wholesome school parties together, which builds the kind of community that is hard to find in bigger schools.

Is River Tech accredited?

River Tech is currently unaccredited and issues its own diplomas and transcripts. Ask the school about current accreditation plans and any requirements relevant to your student’s next step.

Do River Tech graduates get a real high school diploma?

Yes. Long gone are the days when colleges looked down on homeschool families and small private schools. Today most colleges actually welcome students like ours with open hearts, because the competency, initiative, and values of these students tend to be well-suited to college life. River Tech has several students who are already taking college courses while enrolled with us, and they have run into no obstacles along the way. We issue a formal diploma and transcript, all of our teachers hold degrees (in most cases multiple degrees), and we teach the subjects colleges actually care about. One example is our annual essay. Where most high schools assign one capstone project in the senior year, every River Tech student writes a full college-thesis-style essay every year, complete with references, footnotes, and the structural rigor colleges expect. By the time a River Tech student graduates, they have written four or more of these, not one.

Where is River Tech School located?

River Tech is located at 927 E Polston Ave, Post Falls, Idaho 83854, inside The Heart. We serve families across Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Rathdrum, Spokane, Spokane Valley, and Liberty Lake.

Is enrollment open?

River Tech is at full capacity — about 130 students — so there is no open enrollment period. But seats do open: we expect room for a few new students in January, and more each fall as students graduate. All of them are filled from our wait pool — you can join it here.

Do you accept new students mid-year?

Yes — when a seat is open. January, after Christmas break, is the most common mid-year starting point. Wait pool families hear first. If your family is new to the area or in an unusual situation, write to learn@rivertech.me — we read everything.

How does the wait pool work?

One free form, no commitment. When a seat opens in your child’s grade, we look for the child who fits that class — a school built around performing arts and technology serves children who want to sing, act, build, and code. While you wait, you’re invited to River Tech Days and our productions, so the school isn’t a stranger when we call.

How long is the wait?

We don’t know, and we won’t guess at your expense. Some grades turn over a seat or two a year; some don’t. What we can promise: we’ll be straight with you about where things stand, and if you’ve made other plans, just tell us — we’d rather know than hold a place you no longer need.

Why not expand?

Because the size is what makes the school work. At about 130 students, every teacher knows every child. Growing past our walls and our ratios would seat more families at the cost of the thing they came for. If a larger permanent home comes someday, we’ll revisit it. Until then, full means full.
