Who should enroll in River Tech?

River Tech focuses on Technology and the Arts. It makes the most sense if your child likes these two subjects (or at least one of them). If your child neither likes coding/robotics nor music/acting, you would probably be better of choosing a different school, since several hours every day is spent learning technology and the arts. Each day starts with Math and English, then proceed with mostly coding, robotics, digital arts, acting, singing, drawing, etc. You can see a schedule here.

What is School tuition?

You have two options...

Option 1: You can sign up for 5 days a week, 8:30–2:30 pm, for $575/month.

Option 2: You can sign up for 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday), 8:30-2:30 pm, for $525/month.

Registration costs $120.

School Tuition for 5 days a week is  $6900/year. To make the monthly tuition as low as possible, tuition is spread over twelve months. I.e. tuition is paid twelve months per year which comes to $575/month.

School Tuition for 4 days a week is  $6300/year. To make the monthly tuition as low as possible, tuition is spread over twelve months. I.e. tuition is paid twelve months per year which comes to $525/month.

For students beginning in September, the first tuition is to be paid before July 25th, and every month after. (I.e. July 25th, August 25th, September 25th, etc.). For students beginning in the middle of the school year, two months' tuition is to be paid initially.

The reason you pay an extra month initially is because there are many start up costs when a students begins (such as desks, school books, and other equipment/materials).

You can also choose to pay for the entire school year all at once, before July 25th, with a 5% discount. For 5 day students it comes to $6555. For 4 day students it comes to $5985.

You must set up automatic payments, either through our website, or you can have your bank send monthly checks. If you send checks, make them our to River Tech, and mail them to 1517 E 1st Ave, Post Falls, 83854, ID. (Do not send them to the school address).

Still got questions? Feel free to contact us at learn@rivertech.me

Is full tuition paid in months that contain a vacation?

Yes, tuition is paid every month of the year (including summer months) and should be set up as automatic payments (see instructions above). This is to keep the monthly tuition as low as possible.

The tuition price takes into account that some months contain a vacation. The tuition is to paid in full even if you travel or are sick,  (the reason being that we still have to pay our teachers while you are gone).

Non-payment for the month of June or July is an automatic un-enrollment (your spot will be given to someone else and can not be gotten back, since it was given to someone else).

Is there a late fee?

I really dislike fees. That is why we did not have late fees last year. Unfortunately, that resulted in many parents paying late, making it challenging to pay teacher's their salaries on time. Therefore, we are implementing a late fee this year.

Tuition is due before the 25th of every month. If tuition is not received by us by the 5th, you will need to bring a check for $50 to school (or mail it to 1517 E 1st Ave, Post Falls 83854). You can also pay the late fee here. If tuition is not received by the 10th, the fee rises to $100. If tuition is not received by the 15th, you are considered un-enrolled from the school. Please pay on time. We receive no federal or state funding. The school's only funding is tuition.

If you have a personal emergency, reach out to Dan at learn@rivertech.me

Does tuition include textbooks?

Yes, tuition includes all textbooks. Tuition also includes the use of an extensive collection of advanced tech equipment and software (computers, video cameras, editing software, robots, 3D printers, etc.).

However, students are required to buy and bring their own personal laptop or tablet for classes (unless you already have one that meets the requirements). This is a mandatory one-time expense not included in the intuition. The reason that this device is not included in the tuition is that you will be bringing it home and taking personal responsibility for it. (Please have a case for your device).

This device should be only for school, so there should be no games on it.

We recommend giving a tablet to younger children and a laptop to older kids (so the laptop isn't accidentally damaged).

A laptop can run certain software that a tablet cannot. For example, our 3D modeling software, Blender, our Game Development software, Godot, and our video editing software, Hitfilm Express, will run on a laptop but not on a tablet, so if you want to be able to bring your 3D models or games with you home and continue work at home, you will need a laptop. However, you are not required to buy a laptop; a tablet is enough.

Tablet Minimum Specs (to run Scratch and Vexcode Go):
We have found that older tablet simply lag too much, so please buy a newer tablet (no more than a a couple of years old).
There is no doubt in the teacher's mind that iPads are hthe best, but they are also more expensive. We leave the decision to you, but if price is not an obstacle, we recommend Apple products.

Laptop Minimum Specs (to run Blender, Godot, and Hitfilm Express):
Intel Core i3 or better (Apple's M1 will work)
8GB DDR4 Ram
Graphics processor with at least 512 MB video memory
The oldest graphics card that will work are:
NVIDIA Ge Force 9 Seies (2008)
AMD Radeon HD 5000 series (2009)
Intel HD Graphics 4000 GT2 (2012)

There is no doubt in the teacher's mind that Macbooks are the best, but they are also more expensive. We leave the decision to you, but if price is not an obstacle, we recommend Apple products.

Do we offer scholarships or grants?

Not at this time.

Do we offer sibling-discount?

Yes.

2 children = 5% off total tuition.

3 children = 6% off total tuition.

4 children more = 7% off total tuition.
Attention: This discount does not stack with the 5% discount for paying all at once. The maximum possible discount is 9%. Example: You pay for 2 children all at once; that's 5% children discount and 5% discount for paying at once; however, the maximum discount is 9%, so your discount will be 9%.

Still got questions? Feel free to contact us at learn@rivertech.me

Do I receive a refund if I pull my child out of school in the middle of the month or school year?

If you are paying monthly, you do not receive a refund. You simply stop paying. For example, imagine you pulled your child out March 15th. You will not receive a refund for the month of March. However, you will not pay for April (—just stop your payments).

If you paid for a whole year (and received a 5% discount), you will receive a refund for the remaining months. For example, if you pulled your child out March 15th, you would receive a refund for April-June (but you forfeit the 5% discount).

What if my child cannot read?

Every child enrolling in River Tech must be able to read simple sentences. Do not enroll a child who cannot read without talking with Dan and Mary Hegelund about it first. Contact: learn@rivertech.me
